What is Church Planting?

Planting Matters

A culture of multiplication is modeled in the book of Acts. The gospel is not kept to ourselves but is a consistent passing of the baton to everyone we meet. The scriptures form our approach to discipleship, local and global missions, and church planting, shaping our overall strategy.

Church planting fulfills the Great Commission by establishing new congregations to reach people in previously unreached areas, allowing the gospel to spread further than The Point’s reach alone. Since 2002, Longview Point has baptized 800 people. Our church plants have baptized 1,000 people. These are baptized believers who might not otherwise have been reached!

Church Planting Residency

The Point offers a residency program, which trains church planters in the knowledge and skills to plant healthy, reproducing churches. The 24-month program is a paid residency, designed to coach a church planter through pre-launch phases of vision refinement, leadership competencies, core group development, funding strategies, and systems creation. Each resident participates in a network of church planters utilizing the 242 Network assessment and training, as well as a learning community to build a stronger knowledge base of theology, ecclesiology, and missiology.

Church Planting Network

The Church 2 Church Network (C2C Network) is a cooperative network of like-minded Southern Baptist churches in Mississippi and the Mid-South committed to planting healthy, gospel-centered churches. Through cooperation, generosity, and trust, churches pool resources to support church planters, residencies, and new church starts—removing barriers and strengthening the work God is doing across our communities.
