Starting Point

Starting Point is our new member class, which is offered on the fourth Sunday of each month. This class offers the opportunity to shake hands with our ministerial staff, uncover what it means to be a Southern Baptist Church, and learn more about Longview Point’s church history, missional strategy, and discipleship tools. This gathering fosters not only churchwide involvement but also a connection with fellow new members. Whether you are ready to join our faith family or simply desire to learn more, we welcome you to our new member luncheon.

Membership Qualifications

  • Every member must first be a part of the family of God through a genuine conversion of faith and a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Every member must follow the Lord in believer’s baptism; this means being baptized by immersion following your understanding and conversion to Christ.

  • Members may join by transfer of letter from a like-minded Southern Baptist Church or through a statement of faith and Christian baptism.

  • Every new member is required to attend a Starting Point class.

We know that joining a church can be intimidating, especially if you aren’t certain what that process looks like. The information here, as well as in our Starting Point class is designed to both help you navigate easily through our membership process and affirm your decision to join us.

Baptism

Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. Being a church ordinance, it is a prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and the Lord’s Supper. It is a testimony to the believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead. It is not salvation and is not a prerequisite to salvation.

Baptism services are held monthly in our Sunday services. Children 12 years old and younger are required to complete the Following Jesus Seminar before participating in baptism. For questions about Following Jesus, contact Pastor Kevin Earnest.

Serve

Each believer has a responsibility to participate in the ministry of their local body. We hope to aid you in determining where God would have you serve at The Point. Below is a list of ministries and points of contact. Your skillsets, talents, and passions are valuable to making disciples at The Point and beyond. If you need or desire training in a certain area of ministry, talk with a staff member or deacon, and we will help equip you for service. You are welcome to explore ministry opportunities without long-term commitment until you are sure where God would lead you to serve.

Ministries:

Celebrate Recovery is a 52-week recovery program open to anyone with hurts, habits, or hang-ups. Celebrate Recovery and the Landing meet every Friday at 6:30 pm in the Worship Center. You can serve by preparing and serving meals or providing childcare. If you are gifted in teaching or worship, we would love for you to use your gifts here. We need singers, musicians, and teachers every week!

We aim for children at The Point to take ownership of their understanding of God’s Word, His church, and His grander mission. This takes place in small group bible studies, large group worship, and additional ministry opportunities: Kids Choir, Bible Buddies and Bible Drill, and GA’s/RA’s. We need loving, caring teachers to train and disciple in each of these weekly settings.

Fostering Hope meets on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-7 pm. Join our monthly meetings to serve meals or aid in childcare!

This team prepares and serves meals and refreshments during church events, fostering fellowship and community. This team coordinates our Wednesday evening fellowship meal, as well as special events as the need arises. Whether you desire to serve weekly or for special events, this team is the heart of The Point’s hospitality.

Every Thursday evening, volunteers go in teams to the Desoto County Jail to engage in gospel conversations and study God’s Word with the inmates.

The Point is committed to equipping members and providing diverse mission opportunities for them to be involved in God’s plan of “making disciples of all nations.”

We need couples to help couples! To become a marriage mentor, we will train you in the D.A.R.E. Marriage mentoring process, which will develop the skills and opportunity for you to help couples learn how to strengthen their marriages and find greater fulfillment in their relationships.

Anyone in the medical field or who has emergency medical training is encouraged to be a part of this team. These volunteers are contacted in the event of a medical emergency on campus during services or an event.

This team is the ‘front door’ of our Sunday services! As guests and members enter the parking lot, this team greets guests, directs traffic and parking, and assists members who need additional support upon their arrival.

Every disciple has received the gift of fellowship with the Father. Our abiding in the Lord is in direct correlation to our prayer life, and we recognize the need for the emphasis of prayer at The Point. If you are interested in beginning a prayer ministry, we would love to help develop the ministry.

Our desire is for our youngest kids to uncover the truth of the gospel in a safe and fun environment. This occurs in weekly discipleship groups organized by age groups on Sundays and Wednesdays. This team is more than childcare: they take great responsibility in the discipleship of little hearts and hands. We need energetic, committed teachers for all three Sunday services and the Wednesday midweek service!

This team organizes and provides parking lot/security detail for Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, and any special events where security is needed.

Hidden Treasures provides an atmosphere for children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to study, worship, and actively participate in our church body. Ways to be involved include Sunday and Wednesday bible study, buddy days, Vacation Bible School, quarterly respite nights, and special events. If you have a heart to serve the special needs community, there are many ways to get involved with our Treasures.

The Point Student Ministry is dedicated to guiding 7th through 12th grade students toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ in all aspects of their lives. On Sunday mornings within the 9:30 service, we need godly teachers and mentors to lead age and gender based discipleship groups. Each Wednesday, we need volunteers to connect with and worship alongside our students. Additionally, special events, retreats, and summer camps take place throughout the year. Serve in student ministry to help teenagers learn how to live out their faith boldly and effectively.

Our teams strive to lead The Point in biblically authentic worship every week. Choir, band, orchestra, and media teams are all ways to serve within the worship ministry.

This ministry offers multiple options for service to learn, grow, and disciple other women within our church body. There are opportunities to serve both large and small events, as well as participate in ongoing bible study.
