In 2002, Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS established a core group of 35 to pray, plan, and plant a church in Hernando, MS. The core group was commissioned in August, and they held their first worship service the very next month with 124 people present. The old hardware store on the Hernando square and the homes of many gracious families were home to our beginnings. Since then, we have grown into a 2,000-member church with three weekly worship services and discipleship occurring in over 25 groups. Additionally, The Point has committed itself to planting new churches both nationally and globally as modeled by our parent congregation. With a strategy to plant churches that plant churches, we have planted 13 churches since 2005.

A culture of multiplication is modeled in the book of Acts. The gospel is not kept to ourselves but instead is a consistent passing of the baton to everyone we meet. The scriptures form our approach to discipleship, local and global missions, and church planting, shaping our overall strategy.

Church planting fulfills the Great Commission by establishing new congregations to reach people in previously unreached areas, allowing the gospel to spread further than The Point’s reach alone. Since 2002, Longview Point has baptized 800 people. Our church plants have baptized 1,000 people. These are baptized believers who might not otherwise have been reached!
